China's top political advisory body starts annual session

China's top political advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference or CPPCC opened its annual session on Monday in Beijing. Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the opening meeting of the second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, held at the Great Hall of the People.

Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee to the session.

He said 2023 is the beginning year for fully implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Wang Huning said 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, a crucial year for achieving the goals and tasks of the 14th Five Year Plan, and also the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Political Consultative Conference. The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will gather wisdom and strength to contribute to achieving the annual economic and social development goals and tasks.
